Jakten på det estetiskt tilltalande

Jag promenerar runt i Aten och tänker på alla intressanta tankar jag ska tänka, alla vackra ögonblick jag ska fånga som ska resultera i spännande fotografier. Så snart jag försöker fånga ett ögonblick (i ett fotografi) reduceras det; från Här / Nu till Där / Då. Stunden jag upplevde som spännande förändras och blir något jag istället betraktar med ett visst obehag. En del av förklaringen kan ligga i fotografins natur, som Steve Edwards beskriver i Fotografi – en introduktion: bilden blir inte bara ett dokument, utan något helt självständigt som betraktaren agerar utifrån.

Arkitekturen kan visa...

Sedan 2017 är värnplikten återinförd i Sverige. “Det viktigaste är den gemensamma viljan att försvara våra värderingar och vårt sätt att leva”, säger Carl-Oskar Bohlin, minister för civilt försvar, i Sveriges Radio. Men vad är egentligen våra värderingar? Och hur ska vi försvara dem?

Debattartikeln kritiserar och problematiserar hur arkitektur påverkar samhällsstrukturer, och vilka världsbilder vi bidrar till.

Lately I have been thinking about postcards and the function they used to fill - how they once let you share your world with someone for a moment. When reading this, you would know that some days ago my hands formed these symbols, making it something meant just for you to decipher, the side of my palm resting against the paper before the card travels from hand to hand to your postbox.

Projektet tar avstamp i frågan: Hur påverkar idén om öar våra arkitektoniska och samhälleliga föreställningar?

I en grekisk kontext, med Aten som utgångspunkt, blir undersökningsfältet särskilt intressant. Grekland har en historiskt och kulturellt central relation till öar; de har varit platser för mytologi, filosofi, isolering, tillflykt och handel. Att studera de saroniska öarna i förhållande till Aten kan ge en djupare förståelse för hur arkitektur formas i fältet mellan centrum och periferi, mellan historia och samtid.

Öns metodologi

Genom ett filosofiskt perspektiv undersöks ön genom att betraktas som en “heterotopi” (ett begrepp myntat av Foucault). Heterotopin är; att annat - en förskjuten verklighet som speglar, men alltid står i kontrast till, det dominerande samhällets normer. Därför blir heterotopin ett användbart verktyg för att analysera kultur och strukturer.

Projektet “Öns Metodologi” menar att undersöka unika arkitektoniska fenomen, metoder och egenheter som existerar på öar i Norden.

Projektet är stöttat av Statens Kunstfond.

Project: Master Thesis

Föreställningen om ö-havet

Projektet föreställer sig det militära ö-havet utanför Göteborg som ett nav för fredsförhandling. Genom att vända på den militära tanken om att “skapa en parallell struktur som har kapital för våld” undersöks hur vi istället kan skapa en parallell struktur som har kapital för fred. En fysisk manifestation över ett alternativt sätt att förhålla oss till varandra i fråga av konflikt.

Project 9th semester

Bad, Christiania

Projektet undersöker simhallen som en heterotopi, med fokus på heterotopin som ett mentalt tillstånd och hur den psykiska hälsan är förbunden med förmågan att fantisera - och i
förlängningen hur fysiska rum kan skapa olika mentala tillstånd.

Min arbetsprocess startade med en kartläggning av egna upplevelser i olika simhallar. Genom att skriva en pjäs där varje mentalt stadie blev en egen byggnadskaraktär med egna akter
undersökte jag de olika tillstånden.

Commons, England

EASA COMMONS; a two week architecture workshop hosted in Sheffield between the 28th of July and the 13th of August 2023.

How can architecture respond to the privatisation of land and resources? What would architectural practice and education look like if it was able to look beyond private monetary benefit?

EASA (European Architecture Students Assembly) is Europe’s longest running annual architecture workshop. Re-forming annually for over 40 years, it gives different countries in Europe the opportunity to host international events at the cutting edge of architectural discourse.

Angels and Angles är en utställningsplats på Refshaleøen som ritats och byggts av 18 masterstudenter från Kunst og Arkitektur vid Det Kongelige Akademi, Arkitektskolen.

Ambitionen för galleriet är att etablera ett kreativt rum för unga konstnärer och arkitekter, med särskilt fokus på klimatmedvetenhet och social hållbarhet inom olika fält. Genom utställningar, publikationer och evenemang vill Angels & Angles bidra till det kulturella samtalet.

Vad är ditt ansvar som arkitekt? 

Texten undersöker vad en Arkitekts yrkesroll är och vilket moraliskt ansvar det innebär, samt hur det överensstämmer med att vara en Arkitekt i dagens samhälle.

Texten utforskar vilka samhällsfenomen som kan vara medskyldiga till denna problematik och presenterar till sist alternativa sätt för Arkitekter att verka, så att de inte kompromissar med sina värderingar, utan kan och vill stå ansvariga för det som byggs och hur det påverkar samhället.

Cave

As one of seven weavers I was weaving the full-size reproduction of the Shimoni Cave in eastern Kenya for the exhibition Cave Bureau.

"The work was a joint project with Prof. Phil Ayres from the Centre for Information Technology and Architectur at the Royal Danish Academy, applying his research into Kagome weaving and the development of digital tools that can generate weave patterns to realise complex geometries."

Samlande

I texten undersöks hur vi samlar idag genom tankeexperimentet att i dagens samhälle är alla vi människor samlare och allt vi äger är våra samlingar.

Min tes är att ifall vi såg det vi ägde som vår egen samling så skulle vi förhålla oss till ägande och förvarande på ett annat sätt, istället för

konsumtionssamhällets slit-och-släng-tänk som har varit normen i samhället de senaste tiotal åren.

Precis som i ett museums samling behöver föremålen restaureras, samlingen kureras, och tillfälliga föremål lånas från andras samlingar. Varje enskilt föremål är viktigt och bidrar till samlingens helhetsdynamik. En överblick över samlingen måste alltid finnas.

Arresthus

Architects commonly understand their work as serving the common good. Most briefs align with this assumption and are expected to produce positive outcomes.

A arresthus brief disrupts this logic. Its primary purpose is punishment and deterrence, placing the architect in an ethical dilemma: to accept the brief’s intentions or to challenge its underlying premises. The arresthus thus reveals a tension inherent in all architectural programmes: one that is usually less visible.

Study: Trip to Georgia

Oda House

Study Trip, October 2022, with a mission to study and build a Oda house.

The study trip is structured as a workshop, with the construction of a Georgian Odahouse as the shared project. The Oda is a traditional Georgian wooden house type that is still relatively common in western Georgia, but is today rarely built anew.

Oda houses feature load-bearing exterior walls made of thick planks of chestnut, oak, elm, or linden wood, assembled vertically (with the board cross-sections exposed) and joined at the corners using traditional log-building techniques. The houses are raised on pillars and include a balcony that is partially enclosed by a “veil” of finely carved wooden panels.

Rural Movements

"The residency, titled “Choreographic Architectures/Architectural Choreographies,” was coordinated by the choreographic platform Rural Movements in cooperation with Sonnsjö Arkitektkontor.

Eight professional choreographers, dancers, architects and landscape architects in Östra Ämtervik, Värmland, 2022 explored the landscape through movement, a meeting that challenged both choreographic and architectural practices.

The gathering was an experiment in finding new modes of thinking and doing together through trans disciplinary practices."

Isosaari, Reality

As part of EASA Reality, Isosaari Reality was a week-long event held in Finland in August 2021. The is collectively organized by Nordic and Baltic architecture students.

"For the event there is a clear vision: everyone attending, organizers and participants, will be equally responsible for the event to take place and co-creating our reality and community. After an intense year we have collectively recognized the need for a retreat-like event. Since a retreat could mean a different thing to all of us, this gathering will take the shape of its participants. What are the things necessary to survive and thrive as a community on an island?"

School of Ludos

The social consequences of the
evolution of technology is a subject
matter for a lot of urban theorists
today. They show us apocalyptic
visions of a digital dystopia; focus
on the individual and a continuous
new, global capitalism. The age of
exponential technological advancements and society’s dependency on digital information and connectivity in daily schedules means a lot of people no longer look for play
outside of the now, all-encompassing
digital realm.

When we are constantly escaping
reality, entering a fictional world,
the present moment is suddenly
facing a crisis. Our attention is
brought elsewhere than the here-and-
now.

EASA är en ideell och decentraliserad plattform för kulturellt och utbildningsmässigt utbyte
som förbinder arkitekturstuderande och yrkesverksamma från alla europeiska länder.

Tillsammans med Stellan Gulde, Sofia Elldin och Vilja Norgård organiserade jag workshopen ”Obygd/Bygd - Apati i landskapet” med fokus på landsbygdsstrategier och alternativa livsstilar. Skördehuset skapades av lokalt funna material, genom en gemensam designprocess och tre dagars byggande.

I am wearing Hedvigs Wool

Projektet handlar om en attityd och medvetenhet kring dagens materialbruk, produktionsprocesser och ifrågasätter värdet av ett objekt. Beklädnad som en medlare mellan kropp, rymd och klimat.

Beklädnaden består av 14 justerbara delar tillverkade av ull från grannens får. De är kardade, stickade, tovade och vävda för att utnyttja ullens egenskaper på olika sätt och kunna anpassa det levande materialet till klimatet.

Project: Bachelor Thesis

Temporary Home for Refugees

The high street Old Kent Road in London is the travelers path. It is an old Pilgrim route and is today still the most used path by immigrants traveling to England.

This project critiques the new master plan which intends to change the character of the area, and thereby push the major problems to another part of the city instead of dealing with the problems directly.

The building serves as a temporary home for refugees that got their asylum approved, and therefore had to move out of their asylum accommodation and ended up in homelessness.

Biwaks

En Biwak är nomadisk - mindre permanent än en byggnad,
mer permanent än ett tält.

Biwaken är konstruerad av en byggställning, med ett skyddande tarp-membran och ett tak av metall. I sju av de åtta nedre trianglarna spänns ett nät upp för att agera sovplatser. Den dekonstruerade Biwaken transporterades i delar från Villars-sur-Ollon till Alpage de Conche, bars uppför ett berg (+1850m), samlades igen och slutligen byggdes en åskledare på plats.

Collective Housing, Sigurdsgade

In order to sustain the heterogeneity, temporarity and the agency of the people found at Sigurdsgade, Nørrebro I developed a changeable housing system.

Sigurdsgade is a street that allows and empowers the inhabitants to make choices, to effect change. It is an area filled with kindergartens, schools and a big university. It is a calm area, although there is a lot of life during the day. Since the students and the children are constantly in flux the area has the identity of a temporary place. Most of the area is industrial, but Sigurdsgade host buildings from a great span of time which are in a range of conditions.

Kerteminde

Site analysis:

The peaceful Johannes Larsen museum is located in Kerteminde. The dwelling and workshop was built In the early 20th century, and became a meeting place for artists.

What happenes if the spaces of three different distinct time experiences from the site gets transferred, translated and adopted to the slope 100 meters away?

Project:
Through diagrammatic and different types of model studies of time perception and movement in the site, four different zones was placed in relation to the 22 meter high slope Klinten.

Resan till Afrika

The journy to Africa is a garment that explores identity. A translation of a childhood play into an attire. The garment consists of 79 plastic pockets.

The garment is a interpretation of my favourite play as a 5-year old “The journy to Africa”. The rules of the play was that I gathered and packed everything different I could find in my childhood house, collected it in plastic bags in my boat (bed) and then the play was done.

Project: 

Karanjang

Based on a basketball goal the chair Karanjang evolved. The chair is build with consideration to the basketgoals form and sense.

When the chair interact with the body it gets put in motion. The flexible net catches you, strains from your body - just like the basketgoal from the basketball.
